ABOUT US

Field and Thorn Woodcraft Co. was founded by Jonnie and Rachel Schofield — a husband-and-wife team who share a passion for design, the outdoors, and meaningful craftsmanship.

As former Olympic athletes, we bring the same dedication, discipline, and pursuit of excellence from sport into our creative work. Jonnie competed internationally as a Canoe Sprint Olympian before studying Human Performance & Biomechanics and later serving as Head of Performance at the Scottish Canoe Association. Rachel’s career path led through horticulture and garden design, giving her a sharp botanical eye and a deep understanding of how people connect with outdoor spaces.

Our work is about creating furniture that celebrates nature and lasts a lifetime. Jonnie draws inspiration from generations of woodworkers — following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather and great-uncle — and still uses some of their original tools to shape Scottish hardwoods into timeless designs. Rachel brings her design expertise to ensure each piece feels at home in its environment, enhancing both the landscape and the experience of those who use it.

Every object we make is crafted from sustainably sourced timber and, where possible, paired with reclaimed or recycled materials. We work on bespoke commissions as well as offering a collection of made-to-order designs, all guided by the same values: sustainability, quality, and connection.

At its heart, Field and Thorn is about creating more than furniture. It’s about connecting people to nature, to each other, and to the stories embedded in the grain of the wood.
